PCH was founded on October 10, 1954 by Ramos Dionisio Bejarano〔http://encyclopedia2.thefreedictionary.com/Ramos+Bejarano,+Dionisio〕 and Rigoberto Padilla Rush.〔http://www.latinamericanstudies.org/honduras/padilla.htm〕 It had its roots in the Honduran Revolutionary Democratic Party. PCH was claimed by the government to be an illegal party. It developed a strong presence in the trade union movement, for example amongst banana plantations. In the mid-1960s, the U.S. State Department estimated the party membership to be approximately 2400.〔Benjamin, Roger W.; Kautsky, John H.. (March 1968), pp. 122.〕 In 1990, PCH was dissolved, and merged into Patriotic Renovation Party.
